Jewelry Tips: Things We Have Learned Along the Way

  • Water & Jewelry are Not Friends –
    • Never swim in ocean, lakes, rivers, swimming pools or hot tubs with jewelry on. Most people lose jewelry this way because fingers get chilled by the water and reduce in size. Also, the chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs accelerates the wear on precious metals in the jewelry.

  • Baths & Showers are Not Kind to Jewelry –
    • The chemistry in our bath or shower water accelerates the wear on the precious metals in jewelry. We strongly recommend not wearing jewelry when its time to clean up.

  • Put Jewelry to Bed in a Jewelry Box –
    • Many a repair has resulted from sleeping in jewelry. While we toss and turn in the night, prongs on stones snap on the blanket and so do chains. Let your jewelry rest safely in a jewelry box till after your morning bathing. Then pop back on to enjoy.

  • Jewelry Needs a Break from Housework, Gardening and Car Repairs -
    • More damage is done to jewelry during heavy chores. Avoid costly repairs by letting your jewelry ‘take five” or a ring holder or in a jewelry box while you work on your task list.

  • Jewelry Needs an Annual Check-Up –
    • Just like cars need checkups, so does your jewelry. Both are mechanical and wear over time. We strongly recommend going to a local jeweler to have them check the wear on the whole piece – especially prongs holding stones. Do this and you will minimize your repair costs.
